About Tallow
Tallow is rendered beef fat that has been used for skincare for centuries. It is incredibly effective because it contains the same fatty acids found in human skin – including palmitic, stearic, and oleic acids. This makes tallow one of the most biocompatible moisturisers available, allowing it to absorb deeply and nourish skin at a cellular level.
Yes! Many of our customers have seen significant improvement with eczema, psoriasis, and other inflammatory skin conditions. Tallow creates a protective barrier that locks in moisture while delivering essential fatty acids and fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, K) that support skin healing. Because tallow is so similar to our own skin oils, it rarely causes irritation.
All our tallow is sourced from local Southland farms in New Zealand. We use only grass-fed beef tallow from animals raised on pasture. The tallow is carefully rendered to preserve its beneficial properties and nutrients. Supporting local NZ farmers is important to us.
Our products contain a maximum of 3-4 ingredients. The base is always NZ grass-fed beef tallow and jojoba oil. Scented products add a single pure essential oil (lavender, frankincense, or lemongrass). That is it – no preservatives, no fillers, no petrochemicals, no synthetic fragrances.
Using Our Products
Absolutely! Tallow is excellent for facial skin. It absorbs quickly without leaving a greasy residue and provides deep nourishment. Many customers use our products as their only facial moisturiser. Start with a small amount – a little goes a long way.
No. Despite being an animal fat, tallow has a comedogenic rating of 0-2, meaning it is unlikely to clog pores. Its fatty acid profile is so similar to human sebum that skin recognises and absorbs it easily. Many people with acne-prone skin actually find tallow helps balance their skin oil production.
Tallow balm has a firmer, more solid texture – great for targeted application on dry patches, lips, or problem areas. Whipped tallow is lighter and airier, making it easier to spread over larger areas like your whole body. Both have the same beneficial ingredients, just different textures.
Our products have a shelf life of approximately 12 months when stored properly. Keep them in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Tallow is naturally stable and does not require synthetic preservatives.

No, tallow is an animal-derived product, so our skincare is not suitable for vegans. However, our products are cruelty-free – we use tallow from animals already in the food supply chain, ensuring nothing goes to waste. For those seeking natural, ancestral skincare, tallow is an excellent sustainable choice.
We offer free shipping on orders over $50 within New Zealand. Standard shipping is a flat rate of $6.50.
